The expansion of a gold mining operation in Far North Queensland brought mining activities closer to nearby residential areas, increasing the focus on managing environmental impacts such as air quality and operational noise. As part of this expansion, noise control became a key priority to minimise the impact of mining activities on the surrounding community.
One of the challenges identified was the excessive noise generated when loading ore into dump trucks, which became a source of community concern. With ongoing production demands, the mine needed a quick, effective solution. They identified the need to install a rubber liner option for noise reduction but didn’t have time to wait for a fully engineered, custom-moulded liner package from the OEM.
Solution: Fast-Tracked Supply of PP Steel Backed Rubber Liners
Without detailed drawings of the truck tray, the mine’s contractor performed a laser scan to capture the tray geometry. This allowed Reglin to quickly design and supply a custom cut liner package using steel backed Regline PP Rubber Wear Plates.
The liners were fabricated from stock, allowing for fast turnaround and quick installation.
The Wear Liner package featured:
- 100mm thick liners across most of the tray floor
- 125mm thick liners in the central loading impact zone
Made from premium SAR 60 rubber vulcanised to a heavy-duty steel backing, the PP liners provided both impact absorption and abrasion resistance, while their rubber surface significantly helped reduce noise during loading.
Results and Performance
Once installed, the liner package:
- Effectively reduced loading noise, helping address community concerns
- Resisted heavy impact from sharp, hard primary ore
- Provided durable wear protection, extending the service life of the truck tray under extreme operating conditions
- Delivered a fast, practical solution without needing long lead times or custom moulded products
